Children and Young People Counselling

Creating a supporting space for CYP

I understand that the beginning of counselling can sometimes feel uncertain for children and young people.  Not knowing what to expect or who I am can understandably create hesitation.  Because of this, I aim to create a space where they feel safe and empowered to express themselves in ways that feel natural and familiar to them.

To support their exploration, I offer a variety of ways for them to connect with their feelings and experiences, including:

  • Creative Expression: Providing opportunities to explore emotions through arts and crafts.  This might involve doodling, creating sensory bottles, making art collages, crafting wooden worry dolls, drawing with various materials, or building with Lego or toy playsets - allowing them to communicate in ways that words might no always capture.
  • Engaging Activities: Offering age-appropriate games, cards, and quizzes as gentle ways to explore what might be present for them - their thoughts, feelings, and what might be weighing on their minds.
  • Sensory Exploration:  Inviting connection with their senses, whether through exploring nature or engaging in indoor sensory activities.  This can foster a greater awareness of their emotional landscape and how they might find ways to regulate their feelings.  For example, we might mindfully explore the textures, smells, and tastes of different things, such as a variety of chocolate bars, focusing on their direct sensory experience.

In all of these ways, my aim is to meet children and young people where they are, offering opportunities for them to express themselves authentically and to feel heard and understood.

Take the next step towards support

If what you have read resonates with you, and you feel that I might be the right person to support your child through their current challenges, I warmly invite you to take the next step.

You can book a free, no-obligation introductory call with me.  This is a chance for us to briefly discuss what you're looking for, for you to ask questions you might have, and for us to see if I am a good fit to work with your child.

Reaching out is a significant first step, and I look forward to hearing from you.

Counselling is not an emergency service.  If you are feeling actively suicidal, it is important to get help immediately by calling 999 or NHS 111.  Other non-emergency support you can call is the Samaritans at 116 123 or text SHOUT to 85258 for text-based support.  All services are available 24/7.
